My intention with Fairway Birdies has always been to get more women on the course, to help them feel confident in their game and show that we can have a place on the course no matter the skill level.
There are so many women who are super keen to start a life with Golf, BUT just need a welcoming community to slot right in too.
Since partnering with Yarra Bend we have developed a community of golfers playing weekly and feeling comfortable to be out on course with the general public. That sounds silly doesn’t it “general public” but it’s not, many of us don’t have the confidence to just turn up and play with strangers.
The possibilities are endless with so many Public courses in our Metropolitan and Country Regions. Many communities already exist within these clubs but need help reaching out to the wider community. If Fairway Birdies can help any of these clubs attract aspiring women golfers to start playing in a safe and open environment, like we have done at Yarra Bend golf club, then ultimately they will be more likely to join the clubs as members. My dream is to make a golf community that inspires more women to go out there and play while bringing together all the female golfers to celebrate such an incredible sport.
Oakleigh Public Golf Course, for example, is an absolutely perfect 9 hole course often referred to as a hidden gem bordering the picturesque Scotchmans Creek. Oakleigh is suitable for all ages and skill levels, women looking to make a regular commitment playing every week can join the already existing community. Once we get the ball rolling at Oakleigh we will have a template that can be used by other clubs that can increase community building opportunities for women ready to start a life of Golf through Fairway Birdies.
To build a community such as ours we rely on you, you being the experienced ones. The golfers who have already begun their journey, the ones that can encourage and steer friends our way. I can only encourage you to invite your friends looking to get started or looking for a permanent home to play, send them our way we will welcome them with open arms.
On Sunday 16th February you are invited to join us at our Fairway Birdies Meet & Greet Open Day at Oakleigh Public Golf Course. The day will involve a golf workshop with PGA Professional Sandy Jamieson, a guided 9 holes with our host Nikki Wilson, drinks & nibbles and of course one of our beloved pink Fairway Birdie caps.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to connect and make new friends within our golfing community. Anyone from complete beginner to expert is welcome to join our community of Fairway Birdies.
