KING ISLAND GOLF ESCAPE – My personal recommendation…

“Over the years I’ve been to some amazing places, some extraordinary golf courses too, but nothing as spectacular as these two right on our door step,  Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes on King Island”.

You have to go – Nikki Wilson

Some of the most fun you’ll have on King Island will involve Golf.  King Island is anchored in the middle of the Bass Strait  40 odd minutes flying time from Victoria towards Tasmania’s North West coast. Surrounded by some of Australia’s most beautiful beaches, King Island has two new golf courses in Ocean Dunes and Cape Wickham which are ranked among the best in the world.

I have played many of the best dunes courses in the world and these courses are right up there.  There can be wind (just like Scotland and Ireland) but it is part of the experience. The views and unique holes are phenomenal.  There are numerous tee locations catering for all levels of experience.

King Island is also famous for food exports with a range of produce being sought by the world’s top chefs.  Succulent beef, rich gourmet cheese and crayfish plucked from the Island’s crystal clear waters are but three of the delicacies you can enjoy on your visit.

I’m sharing my itinerary with you because we had such a fabulous trip and can’t recommend it highly enough.  Everything went to clockwork, it was so easy and relaxed.

Featured accommodation-

Porky Beach Retreat

Porky Beach Retreat is a top King Island private coastal retreat offering spectacular panoramas on the west coast of King Island.  Set amongst the natural backdrop of The Great Southern Ocean and surrounded by some of Australia’s most amazing beaches.

Positioned in between dunes, with only 98 steps down your private access to a secluded beach, the retreat offers a magical and private sanctuary to truly reconnect.  Unwind in Australia’s only outdoor beachfront bespoke sauna and sunken cedar hot tub (check out the photo above), or just take in the view from the ‘mosaic surfboard ‘shower. These facilities are so special, not only do they add a unique dimension to your tranquil escape but they need to be seen to be believed.  Sunsets + wine + good friends = unforgettable!

There is much to do, exploring the tragic shipwreck history, taking in one of the island’s nature walks, spotting the rare orange-bellied parrot, surfing the world-famous waves, or the big ticket – enjoying a game of golf on the two world-class links courses.  There is something for everyone. A major attraction not to be missed, is the award-winning dairy that produces the world-famous King Island cheese (sit down and enjoy a glass and a sample board).  Enjoy the local oysters, crayfish and abalone in season (for this you must order prior to travel) and the mouth-watering King Island beef. Why not enjoy an in-house chef to create a truely gourmet experience.

At the Faraway Sanctuary which is exclusively yours, be warmly welcomed with King Island produce and hospitality before being left to start your magical, unforgettable and tranquil experience.

I can just see an awesome weekend away staying at Porky’s, accommodates 8 maximum (10 at a squeeze) perfect for couples or group of golfing girls or guys.  Glass of Champagne in the spa after your round sounds like heaven to me !  And that view 🙂

Whether it’s your weekend golf buddies, a couples trip, or a reunion of lifelong friends, start planning your essential golf adventure now…  This is the perfect weekend getaway and there is potential to extend your trip.
